LONDON, UK - Here's a super slick concept that couples a simple do-it-yourself iPhone stand with the wildly popular app "Digital Clock". Nathan Barry fashioned himself a custom iPhone stand using the plastic tray found inside his original iPhone 3G packaging. The idea centered around creating a digital clock stand for his bedroom.
"Quite easy to do," Barry said, "All you need is a sharp craft knife and a steady hand."
I opted to take Barry's lead by downloading the $.99 "Digital Clock" app because you can customize the settings. Choose from four display colors, modern or LED display, 12 or 24 format and most importantly controlling brightness levels. I tried the FREE "digiClock 24" app but found it very limiting by comparison and the display was not as slick.
Nathan also suggested using 'Airplane Mode' to keep your iPhone from battery drain should you choose to leave it on all night. Of course the other alternative is plugging your phone into the wall, but the look is not as sweet. I'm giving Nathan Barry 4.5 Nanos out of five for his slick DIY stand design.
This handy app also functions perfectly with iPhone's built-in Alarm. Set your iPhone alarm as normal, you'll see OK/Snooze buttons displayed over your Digital Clock when the alarm goes off. It's that simple! All of the Digital Clock options are accessed through your iPhone Settings.
